About Therapy With Me

Process What’s Really on Your Mind

When you begin therapy with me, you will find a place where you can talk about how you’re really doing. You will finally be able to share those thoughts you keep having that you’re afraid to say to anyone.

I believe processing out loud is an important piece of therapy. It’s really cool when a client is talking and says something like, “I’ve never thought about that until I just said it.”

So I want to make sure our time together includes an opportunity for you to process what’s on your mind.

Build Your Mental Health Toolbox

There’s more to it than that, though. I want to give you tools for your mental health toolbox.

I love putting on my “teacher’s hat” and sharing information with you about your mental health concerns and the strategies that have been shown to help.

My goal is to help you become your own therapist. Yes, basically to work myself out of a job!

We Decide Together

Therapy with me is a collaborative process. While some therapists downplay diagnosing, I like to be transparent about it. I think receiving an accurate diagnosis can be very helpful.

You realize that all the things you’ve been going through (the ones that seem so strange and scary) are part of a disorder that has a name, that other people are dealing with it too, and that treatment is available.

That’s such a relief!

Likewise, I want to make sure we’re on the same page with the goals we’re working toward, so I share treatment plans with you and ask for your input.

Practice It Between Sessions

Our time together is important, and so is what you do between sessions. If you were seeing a physical therapist, you wouldn’t just do the exercises at your appointments and expect to improve.

The same is true for mental health therapy. I will encourage you to practice what you learn and apply it to your everyday life.

As your therapist, I wear a variety of hats: sounding board, teacher, cheerleader, accountability partner, encourager.

About Cindy Hodgson, LPCC

I’m a licensed therapist in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

I made a midlife career change and earned my master’s degree in counseling psychology from Bethel University in 2016.

My trainings since then have included exposure and response prevention (ERP) for OCD, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for depression and anxiety, and CBT (exposure-based) for social anxiety.

I’ve had my own struggles with mental health issues, so I have a level of understanding that comes from personal experience.

At the same time, I realize that everyone’s experience is different and requires personalized care.

In my free time, I like spending time outdoors – although not so much in the winter in Minnesota! In the warmer months, I enjoy going to the beach, kayaking, hiking, and reading in the backyard while my little Yorkie mix, Barney, snoozles next to me.

See If We’re a Good Fit

If any of this resonates with you, I’d be glad to talk.

I offer a free consultation, a chance to ask your questions, get a feel for how I work, and decide together whether we’re a good fit.

There’s no pressure and no obligation, just a conversation to help you take the next step.
